I have worked in Dearborn for almost 10 years but only moved into the Golfview Oaks neighborhood 3 years ago after growing tired of the 50 mile commute to and from Rochester every day. After moving in, it took only 4 short months, and an expensive uphill property dispute, to realize I needed to be involved in the Neighborhood Association. Involvement in city politics also appealed to me after admiring my father’s 26 years as the appointed City Manager in Mt. Clemens. So far, I’ve found it to be an exciting adventure and beneficial to my needs as a homeowner. My professional career as an Executive Chef in various hotels, country clubs and other high quality establishment in the metro Detroit area has placed me in several leadership roles so filling the position of Association President seemed a natural fit. I’ve since used that experience to achieve my greatest accomplishment to date with the association –rebuilding the membership from only 17 households when I took over to the current 156 out of 440 homes via social activities. As the Board continues to host events annually to increase membership, homeowner awareness and activities for the kids we hope to continue the growth. When not at work I enjoy gardening, antiquing, wine, cooking and hanging out with my two weimarainer dogs Sapphire and Tiffany.

My wife, Julie, and I have lived in Dearborn our whole lives. We met at Edsel Ford High School in 1980 and have been married since 1986. Julie attended Henry Ford Community College and is a Registered Nurse. I went to U of M – Dearborn and work at an exhibit company as a vice president of account development (sales guy). Our house on Beaver St. is the third home in Dearborn that we have purchased and completely rebuilt and remodeled. Julie thinks it’s a sickness with me! We’ve lived in the Golfview Oaks neighborhood since 1998 and I have been on the neighborhood board for the last five years. I joined the board as a way to get involved in my community and meet more people from the neighborhood. I am also the treasurer of the Dearborn High School Adult Athletic Boosters Club and I coach fast pitch softball in the spring and summer. Getting involved…another sickness! My job requires me to travel a lot, so I’m not as much help as some of the other Directors, but I am committed to doing whatever I can to contribute to the association to keep our neighborhood a safe and sought after place to live.

I grew up in Dearborn as a young child in a house on Dacosta. I graduated from Dearborn High and U of M - Dearborn. My parents, Rose and Ben Wallis belonged to the Golfview Association from the very beginning of the association. They would hold meetings in their basement and I remember having to set up chairs and clean the basement. The president of the association in those days was Frank Abar. As a child we passed out newsletters and flyers all over the neighborhood. It seems kind of ironic that I am again passing out Association flyers in the neighborhood as an adult. I have lived in Dearborn for about 45 years. I raised to two boys here in Dearborn, on Hubbell and then on McMillan Streets. I was recently asked to serve as a Director for the Golfview Association and I must admit it is a lot more fun than I ever
thought it was going to be. I own a business in the Dearborn and Dearborn Heights area called Livernois Vehicle Development, Livernois Motorsports and Detroit Speed Shops and I am glad to do my part to keep this neighborhood safe and beautiful. The Golfview Oaks Association is a wonderful opportunity to keep our tight knit community well informed about local events, spend some time getting to know our neighbors better and creating a wonderful living environment to pass on to the next generation.

I have lived in the Golfview Oaks subdivision since June, 1965. I graduated from Fordson High School and attended Henry Ford Community College. I have enjoyed raising my children in this beautiful neighborhood with its warm and caring neighbors and friends. Dearborn is a great place to live with all of its services offered. At one time in my life, I was a Financial Planner. My grandchildren are the light of my life.

I am a retired Medical Social Worker in the Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I moved to Golfview Oaks in November of 1989. I graduated from Trenton High School, went to Eastern Michigan University and University of Michigan to receive my degrees. I love spending time with my nieces and nephews and I also love gardening, with rose bushes being my favorite. I just love walking down the tree lined streets of Golfview Oaks and having friendly people and neighbors to smile at and say hello.

My husband, Jerry, and I moved here after getting married when both of us worked at Ford and couldn’t beat the commute to and from work. Shortly after moving in, we started a family and have enjoyed living in the Golfview Oaks Neigborhood for over 12 years. It is the best place to raise a family. The neighbors, parks, city services and close proximity to everything has kept us from moving to the western suburbs when lots of our friends were leaving Dearborn; we have no regrets with our choice to stay. I joined the board two years ago after getting involved in the social events the Association was offering, such as the Holiday Party, Easter Egg Hunt and Halloween @ the Park. The children have a blast on the family events and we get to catch up with our neighbors and the Holiday Party. It seemed like a natural next step and it has been fun working with the other board members to make Golfview Oaks a fun, friendly neighborhood. As a member of the board I hope to continue growing the social events and doing what we can to keep our neighborhood safe, fun, family-friendly and growing.
